Even in the modern era, communities in Los Angeles and around California face a variety of water challenges ranging from securing access to clean, affordable water, to contending with the reality of water supplies threatened by a changing climate. We'll explore these issues and our region’s ever-changing water story through an exhibit curated by Edith and Jolly de Guzman called What’s On Tap: LA’s Water Story…Source to Spigot.
Part curatorial and part installation,"Spectrum Gestalt” is a captivating exploration of color and form that brings together artists' works from various genres and mediums.
"Spectrum Gestalt" is a unique fusion of curatorial vision and artistic expression, inviting viewers on a multi-dimensional journey through a vibrant spectrum of color.

The opening reception on Saturday, July 13th 4pm-8pm will include a not-to-be-missed panel discussion of movers and shakers in the water world. The discussion will be followed by a blind water tasting, when you’ll be able to decide for yourself how various brands of bottled water stack up against each other and tap water.

I spend time in the natural world observing light. I paint from memories of these experiences. Often what is expressed on the paper is as much a representation of the physical world my eyes see as it is a reflection of the emotions experienced in observation of Nature’s beauty.

Shape+Form
Shape and form are two of the basic elements of art. By definition, shape is an enclosed area of space, form is a three-dimensional shape. Simple enough, until an individual becomes involved. An artist transforms these simple geometric or organic building blocks into something artistic and lyrical.
The jurors were Meher McArthur (art historian and curator) and Mollie White (Gallerist, Mollie White Gallery).

ABOUT THE EXHIBITION PROGRAM
The Sturt Haaga Gallery presents three exhibitions per year of contemporary artists’ work that responds to and elucidates nature, natural processes and communities, ecology, biology, botany, horticulture, garden design and history, and other subjects relevant to its botanical garden setting. Exhibitions are typically group shows of work responsive to a curatorial theme or idea proposed by the Descanso Gardens Curatorial Advisory Committee, consisting of garden staff, trustees, and art experts from the surrounding community.
Each exhibition usually includes a specially conceived education or enrichment activity for children.
Funding for the gallery came entirely from private, community sources. With a lead gift of $2.1 million from Heather Sturt Haaga and Paul G. Haaga, Jr., of La Cañada Flintridge, additional funding was provided by The Ralph M. Parsons Foundation of Los Angeles, Georgianna and Paul Erskine of Pasadena, and a number of additional individual and foundation supporters.
Significant funding for programming in the Sturt Haaga Gallery has been provided by Richard Carlson and Erin Maclean Culley of Los Angeles; the Ralph M. Parsons Foundation; Mindy and Gene Stein of La Cañada Flintridge; Heather and Paul Haaga; and the Pasadena Art Alliance.

'Beloved Planet' is organized by Southern California Women's Caucus for Art in partnership with The Makery. We call her 'Mother Earth' because, like a mother, she provides us with shelter, nourishment, and safety. Also like a mother, she needs all the caring and support we can give her. This exhibition focuses on images of love and appreciation for our sacred planet. We love the beauty of her varied surfaces and brilliant skies, as well as the plants and animals adorning them. And we know that we must not hurt that which we love.
The exhibit will be juried by art historian, critic, and curator, Betty Ann Brown. Brown received her Ph. D. in the History of Art in 1978 and joined the Cal State University Northridge faculty in 1986. Her research and teaching have ranged from the ancient--Precolumbian Art of Mexico--to contemporary. Her most recent exhibition ('Sages' at MOAH) honored artists who have had long careers of both teaching and creating art.
